OUR NAME

The Duck & Cat pays homage to Chef Dana Christensen's father, John, (aka "The Duck") and his brother, Anders, who loved to fish and noodle for catfish (hence: "Cat"). The name nods to nostalgia: family hunting and fishing trips, homecooked Danish dishes, and the feeling of a familiar time and place.

the duck: john e. Christensen

The Duck contained multitudes. He was a true folk hero. He could fit in the duck blind or in the conference room. If you got up early enough you could see him in disguise at the casino or in a suit as the first one to on turn the lights in Kayser Hall at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

He fit in all places.

In his lifetime, John E. Christensen held many titles and went by many names: The Duck, Ph.D., Johnny Baby, Golden Gloves boxer, Professor, UNO Chancellor Emeritus, son, grandpa, husband, friend, fisherman — and Dana’s dad.
